In today’s digital world, children learn by watching — and much of what they see comes from Western media. Through interviews and research, we identified the biggest challenges parents face in teaching Filipino values.
Many Filipino children watch mostly Western-made shows, leading them to imitate behaviors and communication styles that sometimes overshadow Filipino practices like pagmamano and using po and opo.
Children naturally copy what they see online, causing parents to frequently correct behaviors, language, and attitudes that reflect Western norms rather than Filipino values.
There is very little digital media that intentionally teaches Filipino values such as respeto and pakikisama, making it harder for parents to find culturally relevant content for their children.
